Fuck. Shit. Wank. How could he walk away from Cloud like that? How could he push him away when the boy needed him most. He was SOLDIER, 1st class and he was being sent on a mission, that's why. This wasn't fair. But then again, life never was. Zack tapped his foot against the elevator wall impatiently as the doors closed him off from his love. He couldn't go back now, he had a mission to attend.
When the doors to the elevator slid open again, the raven-haired SOLDIER found himself facing the ground floor. Not far away on a helipad stood a dormant helicopter, waiting for him to board. With a sigh, he reluctantly trudged towards it. He was met by Reno, a red-haired Turk who promptly informed him that he was to be taking him away on his mission. Zack indicated that he was listening by inclining his head ever so slightly and offering a small grunt. He was far too distraught to trust himself to form coherent words.
"We just need to wait for the cadets to load up, yo," Reno began to flick the helicopter to life from where he sat in the pilot's seat. It's blades slowly began to rotate. He offered Zack a smile, which soon turned into a frown, "S'up, yo?"
Zack brushed him off, swinging himself into the helicopter, "It's... it's nothing..." His brows lowered into a scowl and he soon found himself turning away from the concerned Turk, "I-I'm fine."

Strands of blonde hair stuck to his face as the tears dried. His eyes hurt a great deal more than he thought they would, but still he brushed his sleeve over the now puffy blue orbs to hide the fact that he had actually been crying. Ignoring the few concerned looks he received, Cloud slammed the barrack’s door behind him before nearly tripping himself up at the extremely quick pace his legs took him. There was only one thing he wanted. Only one thing he needed. And that was Zack. After all they had been through, it was about

time they sorted themselves out.

He couldn’t take the elevator and just wait. Not anymore, so he rushed down the stairs, missing out several as he neared the ground floor. The hallways never seemed to end. He felt as if he had just started out as an cadet again. New sounds, new smells and new faces. The whole place was like a maze. But this face wasn’t new; in fact it was the face of his ex-lover. Staring blankly at the 1st Class, Cloud could then feel the tears welling up in his eyes again. What was he going to say? How could he even talk to him after what had happened? It was only then, he realised he was only standing meters away from the helicopter that was soon

to leave for a mission. Zack, don’t go, not right now.

"Ya don't look like you're fine, yo." The red-haired Turk said in reply. It was neither a question, nor an accusation; just a simple statement. He leant back in his seat in a far too casual manner of someone addressing the problems of Zack Fair: SOLDIER, 1st class. "We have a seriously long flight ahead of us, y'know. Might as well talk about somethin', yo."
Again, Zack batted his curiousity aside, this time with a half-hearted wave of his hand, "It's nothing." His voice became a little firmer, as if he was trying to lure himself into a false sense of happiness. He couldn't worry about such issues, not when he was about to depart for a mission. Any distractions, anything that may leave his focus blurred and dented could lead to a fatal mistake on his, or another's behalf. Fingers clenched at the end of the arms of the seat he was sat rigidly in. For a brief moment, the SOLDIER let his eyelids shutter to a close, breath coming to him in short drags. He tried to remedy this, attempting to calm himself down by drawing out his intakes of air. This failed, as he soon found out. It only made him dizzy.

Fuck.

I'm so wound up, the raven-haired man noted, a shudder traveling down his spine. He glanced out the window in a hope that the ShinRa building he had just left would remind him as to why he turned down making up with Cloud and instead, jumped into the helicopter.
It was instantaneous, what happened next. Zack felt his face drain of colour as the blonde cadet he had just been thinking about came into view. Again. No, no. Not now, Spiky! The SOLDIER fought with himself inwardly for a few seconds. Reno seemed completely oblivious to this, for he was busy talking away about meaningless matters.
"Reno," Zack gave him a nudge, breaking the Turk from his stupor. "Turn the blades off. Do it, and do it now." He added at the end, as the red-head's mouth opened, ready to question his intentions. His mouth shut, and he swiftly closed off the machine's power.
Lavender eyes met the azure as the SOLDIER slid out of the helicopter and onto the ground again. His legs moved before his brain managed to kick into gear and Zack soon found himself rocking Cloud, his Cloud, in a tight cradle.
"H-Hush, hush Spiky," he murmured past a strangled sob into the cadet's blonde locks, "I'm here, I'm here. I won't ever leave you."

Cloud closed his eyes at the words that had been spoken and wrapped his arms around the SOLDIER’s waist, burying his face into his chest and breathing in the scent he missed so dearly. “I’m sorry,” he whispered, before letting the tears fall from his eyes and tightening the embrace, bringing Zack’s body closer. He didn’t know what to say. He just wanted to be in the arms of his lover forever and to never make the same mistake of letting him go again. “I love you,” Cloud finally managed to speak between his soft

sobs. “So much.”

The blonde boy observed from a distance with a look of disgust and distaste. He loathed the two being together and he knew that the jealousy was taking over. The only reason he was here was because he was one of the few cadets’ to go on the mission. Oh, how he’d love to stay behind and comfort Cloud, but maybe

now he could have a “friendly” chat with Zack. A small smirk appeared on Ratcliff’s face.

Zack placed a long awaited kiss in the midst of Cloud golden spikes. He took the lengthly pause between the hug and when the cadet spoke to hold him as close as was humanly possible. He wanted to drink him up to ensure he'd never be without the boy again. Never, ever again. He familiarised himself with his scent once more as he buried his chin into Cloud's hair.
"You don't need to apologise, angel." He murmured between a strangled sob. "Never apologise. I love you, Cloud." At this point, the SOLDIER had leant back only slightly to allow himself to rest his index finger under the boy's chin. Gently, the raven-haired man's finger angled Cloud's chin upwards, so he was looking at him. He offered him a tender smile, hands running up each side of the cadet's face to cup it and bring it to him in a kiss.
It was at this point when Reno took the opportune moment to trip his way out of his now dormant helicopter and fall flat on his face.
"Awh shit!" The Turk heaven himself to his feet, only to find his uniform now covered in dirt. He brushed himself down, turquoise eyes flickering in Zack and Cloud's direction. "Uh. Sorry, yo. I'll uh, leave."

The smirk was gone. “Fuck,” Ratcliff cursed inside his head as he watched the couple share their love. What was he going to do now that they were back together? Turning sharply, the young boy wondered over to the helicopter, his thoughts fuming with anger and misfortune. Perching on the edge of the seat, he buried his head into the palms of his hands and let out a distraught groan. The only thing Ratcliff could do was to lie to Zack and somehow make him believe his words, but why on earth would he believe him after the recent

events? This was going to be harder than he had thought.

Cloud returned the kiss with confidence. It was exhilarating to taste the lips of the SOLDIER again and he never wanted it to end, but sadly it had to. He pulled back with a soft smile and stared into the man’s eyes before him. They were beautiful. Zack was beautiful. He continued to smile at his own thoughts before letting reality kick in. “Don’t you have a mission to attend to?” the blonde asked, a tone of disappointment in his voice. Why did he have to go now, right when everything was back to normal? Cloud

stared into thin air. What if he got hurt?

Zack inclined his head briefly, "I suppose I have to go." His gut clenched as he spoke painfully through his teeth. Why, when everything was beginning to mend, did he have to torn away from his love? Life was a sadistic bitch. A gi-fucking-normous one. The SOLDIER scowled to himself, lavender eyes flickering back to the face of Cloud. Its effect was instantaneous; at once, the storm that threatened to obscure the raven's features was blown away, leaving only room for a light smile and sparkling eyes. He stooped down to peck the blonde's cheek once, then allowing his lips to trail down to his mouth. It was there Zack planted an ever stronger kiss.
"I should go." The man felt his heart ache when he pulled away, a hollow expression smudging the earlier smile. No longer able to make eye contact, for fear of showing his lover that he, a SOLDIER, was now in tears. "I-I love you."
With that, he turned himself away fully and trudged slowly towards the helicopter. Half-heartedly, he swung himself in and belted up. Reno cast him a strange look before flicking the switches to the 'copter back on, "C'est la vie, yo."

Cloud frowned. He hated seeing Zack down, especially when he knew it was because he had to leave. Because of this, Cloud blamed himself for upsetting his lover. I wish I could just get on that helicopter and be next to him. But he knew that wouldn’t be possible. Not taking eyes off the SOLDER, he smiled briefly. “Stay safe,” he whispered, before heading off towards the training rooms. He had one class left before he could be free for the rest of the day, but Cloud knew it wouldn’t be the same without Zack. There wouldn’t be the training sessions to enjoy or any nights to spend together until he got back. Zack might not even

come back for all Cloud knew. He shuddered at the thought.

Ratcliff stared out of the window expressionlessly as the helicopters set off towards their destination, still figuring out how to make his plan work. Anyone would find it sickening if they knew the thoughts that were going through his head. But he just called it revenge. Revenge towards the people that took away what he

wanted most.
